Right now my photos are categorized by photographer, but I am thinking I want to categorize them by theme. Any thoughts before I make the tedious change to re categorize everything?

That all makes sense, and i think that I can implement that with in the structure of the website. Thanks Shawn.

Difficult question to answer. A lot of art is done/classified-by/understood-in-context-of (it seems) the time-period of the art’s creation.
The theme of the art/artist is revealed by how the artist revisits similar ideas and also how the ideas start to change over time, i.e., a pattern and understanding of what the artist is trying to communicate/work-through emerges over time, in the “big picture”.
I understand photography is different but maybe not so much so. idk. I would say that if you do categorize by theme that i would suggest you make that in addition to your previous method of categorizing by photographer and just as importantly time to make sure that things stay historically clear….
Yes, in general, additional categories are helpful (for faster searching) but they (further classifying things) may not be beneficial if an older system (the previous style of classifying — which had merit before and still does depending on the type of review is done) is lost.
Summary, more classifying good (quicker searches). Lessing the way that info can be references/reviewed bad (diminishing possible levels of understanding of subject matter).
